LIVE-ABOARD MULTI DAY SAFARIES 2-6 days OCT-MAY

SIMILAN ISLANDS National Park

Roughly 60 miles to the north of Phuket Island lies a chain of nine islands known as the Similans. (Similan is the Muslim word for nine) These islands were pushed up after a massive underwater eruption took place about one million years ago.

The islands have some of the most beautiful coral reefs and white sandy beaches in South East Asia . The area is known worldwide for it's diving and snorkeling and as a breeding ground for many fish species.

Fourteen miles to the west of the islands lies the underwater seamount known as Ton Mai. Covering an area of about 2 miles this underwater island never quite made it to the surface with the other nine. Rising from 250 meters to 75 meters the area is rich in fish life. Large shoals of Tuna gather here and Black Marlin patrol the area looking for food. If you want to catch Marlin this is the best place Phuket has to offer. Many good size marlin have been caught and lost here. Chee Meng Yap from Singapore using 30 lb standup caught Phukets biggest Marlin of 220 kgs here aboard REEL HOOKER Dec 2000. Kam Ka Ng, another Singapore angler, lost a bigger fish we put at 300 kg in December 2001.

The best fish of 2002 was a black marlin 200 kg, and the best fish in 2003 also 200 kg 2004 over 200kg.

The area also holds many wahoo and some good size yellowfin tuna.

Wahoo just seem to love the rich feeding grounds and large shoals of this fast striking fish can be located. Around some of the reefs close to the islands the action can be really hot. My best catch has been fifty fish in 2 hours 45 mins. Sailfish are present too in good numbers early in the season. Popper casting and jig fishing can produce some good Giant Trevally and DogTooth Tuna especially after dark. Bottom fishing during the half moon period is good also.

If you want to get away from it all and catch fish don't hesitate. Book now only a few dates for the 2005-2006 season left.

KOH ROK National Park

In years gone by this location 60 miles south of Phuket was the hottest sailfish area in Asia . During the filming of the Rex Hunt fishing adventures Rex and the crew were astounded by the amount of free jumping sailfish they saw and the action we were able to put on film.

As the news spread local longtail boats from surrounding islands came with their gill nets and proceeded to wipe out the fish. After a couple of indifferent seasons the fishing it's now back to it's best. The end of 2004 and the start of 2005 saw some great sailfish action. The two islands are very beautiful and a great backdrop to any days fishing. The islands only quarry worth going after is the sailfish so you have to be prepared only to catch sails.

All live-aboard charters to the Similans and Koh Rok include all food on board (mixed Asian and western) soft drinks water and equipment.

ANDAMAN ISLAND ( India )

A full 48 hours steaming by boat from Phuket lies a chain of islands known as the Andamans. During Feb 2001 we visited the islands for the first time staying almost one month. Not knowing the area we fished where we thought there would be some fish. Whether good judgement or luck we managed to find ourselves some great fishing. Black and Blue Marlin wahoo, yellowfin tuna and some monster giant trevally. At night the bottom fishing was so good sometimes it was had to stop and go to sleep.

Visiting Port Blair the main port in the chain gave us the chance to wander around and look at the island that once was a penal colony belonging to the British. The Indian food was very good also. Visiting the fish market for fresh bait early in the morning we managed to see some very large fish caught by the locals on handlines.

During the hours trolling around islands that look like everyone's idea of paradise you could see some of the most amazing marine life. Whales dolphins turtles and manta rays where an everyday occurrence. During Feb 2004 we revisited the islands catching hundreds of fish including 71 Giant Trevally released in one day. We released several marlin and had some fantastic jigging for giant dogtooth tuna biggest landed 65kg. The 2005 trip started with a bang first a nice 60kg yellowfin tuna and the next day a fine black marlin of 700 lbs. Several other marlin were caught and plenty of big sharks. 2006 some great marlin action including a lovely balack of 800lbs. Check out the photo galleries.
